Competition is kicking up in K-pop this month with all the big comebacks, and it shows in the album sales!
Gaon Music Chart, one of the top Korean charts to track overall digital and physical sales in South Korea, updated their weekly Retail Album Chart numbers for the dates April 26 to May 2! The “Retail Album Chart” tracks the total number of albums sold at retail stores.
Along with new and continuously popular releases, one big artist jumped up 18 spots on the chart!
1. NCT DREAM – Reload
NCT DREAM excited fans with their comeback with “Reload” – the group’s last comeback as 6 before their graduation system is officially ended and they will promote as an occasional seven member unit of NCT. Between the album release on April 29 and May 2 the group sold an amazing 151,746 copies of their album. The group beat their personal best for pre-ordered album production, so it will be exciting to see how many more they sell!
2. OH MY GIRL – NONSTOP
OH MY GIRL are making waves with their “NONSTOP” comeback, earning the group their first number 1 spot on Melon realtime charts (number 2 daily) five years after their debut. It’s rare a girl group will have the physical selling power to beat top boy groups, but OH MY GIRL is doing amazingly selling 21,956 copies of their “NONSTOP” album in just the first week! They just won with their title song of the same name on SBS MTV’s The Show, and we hope there’s more wins for them in the future!
3. GOT7 – DYE
GOT7 moved two spots down the top five this week, but they are still doing great with sales for their new mini album “DYE“! The album sold 6,902 copies last week as the group finished up their promotions for “NOT BY THE MOON”. Their new song ended up winning nearly all music shows for the past week, letting the group enjoy a special time with IGOT7!
4. CRAVITY – HIDEOUT: REMEMBER WHO WE ARE
CRAVITY is holding steady among all their senior groups with their debut album, “HIDEOUT: REMEMBER WHO WE ARE“! CRAVITY continuing to promote their title track “Break all the Rules” on music shows seems to be having an effect, because the group rose back up two rankings this week!
5. (G)I-DLE – I trust
(G)I-DLE are the lucky group that jumped up 18 places this week with their most recent album “I trust“! They had everyone saying “Oh my god” with their shocking title track and music video, and recently promoted their b-side track “I love you” on the weekly music shows. Their promotions have been effective for sure, because last week they once again sold 2,779 copies of the mini album.
This week K-pop fans were treated to a comeback from ASTRO, who released a new mini album, but NCT DREAM’s sales are still going strong! Who do you think will come out on top?
