Last week was another big week in K-pop, featuring ASTRO’s comeback as six as well as NCT DREAM and OH MY GIRL battling it out to win the weekly music programs! The deciding factor for most music shows comes down to physical album sales and digital scores.
Gaon Music Chart, one of the top Korean charts to track overall digital and physical sales in South Korea, updated their weekly Retail Album Chart numbers for the dates May 3 to May 9! The “Retail Album Chart” tracks the total number of albums sold at retail stores.
One group made it into the top 4 with an album they finished promoting a long time ago – who do you think it is?
1. ASTRO – GATEWAY
ASTRO came back with all six members active and ready to promote their new title track, “Knock”! The “GATEWAY” album sold 54,090 copies from May 4 to May 9. Their sales are part of what brought ASTRO their second ever win on MBC Music’s Show Champion! The group beat NCT DREAM, OH MY GIRL, Taeyeon, and IU to be the Champion Song of the week.
2. NCT DREAM – Reload
NCT DREAM takes the number two spot this week, but it’s nothing to be sad about! Despite their first week sales of ending last Wednesday the group continued to sell many copies of their new mini album, “Reload“, for a total of 35,931 copies sold last week! Their amazing sales last week and this week earned them a music show win on Music Bank late last week.
3. CRAVITY – HIDEOUT : REMEMBER WHO WE ARE
CRAVITY are holding strong as super rookies, with their debut album “HIDEOUT: REMEMBER WHO WE ARE” coming in at number 3 in sales this past week! This new Starship boy group sold 8,634 copies of their album in the past week. With CRAVITY having steady sales since their debut, it’s likely we can look forward to their growth and sales for future comebacks, too!
4. BTS – MAP OF THE SOUL : 7
Despite not having any new promotions, BTS made it to the number 4 spot on the Gaon Retail Sales Chart this week with their most recent album, “MAP OF THE SOUL : 7“! They sold 2,434 copies of their album in the week of May 3 to May 9. It’s possible interest in BTS’s music might lead to more album sales leading up to their online concert, BANG BANG CON The Live on June 14!
5. GOT7 – DYE
GOT7‘s seventh mini album, “DYE“, finishes up the top five for this week of retail sales! In the past week, GOT7 sold 1,425 copies of their most recent release despite finishing album promotions. The group continues to prove their popularity even this far into their career, and we hopefully will be able to see more from them soon!
This week has brought us releases by DAY6 and NU’EST, who are very likely to take the top spots on the charts next week! Which group do you think will come out on top?
