The Korean Business Research Institute released their analysis of K-pop girl groups’ brand reputation rankings for April! A brand reputation ranking is an analysis of the value of a group’s name in media, not necessarily popularity. Their rankings are made through analysis on media attention, consumer interest and interaction, and the positivity of reactions to the group or their content from big data gathered over a month.
The data was gathered between March 10 and April 11. There is a small chunk of dates that were not included in this ranking or in the ranking for February (gathered February 13 to March 14).
The overall amount of big data analyzed decreased 22.31% from March.
Red Velvet is back at the top of the brand ranking index for April! With a total brand ranking index of 4,955,208, the group’s score went up 4.06% from last month. Although they didn’t have a comeback, Red Velvet has been in the news a lot in the past month. Wendy was finally discharged from the hospital and voiced the main character of the Korean dub for “Trolls World Tour”, and Seulgi and Joy’s voices are now featured in subway announcements in Seoul!
The most popular related search terms were “Trolls”, “subway”, and “OST”, while the biggest related keywords were “pretty”, “enjoy”, and “cute”! The reactions to the group’s brand online were judged to be 62.03% positive. Hopefully we’ll get to see even more of Red Velvet in the near future as Wendy continues to recover!
BLACKPINK also managed to push up one rank with a brand raking index of 4,472,516, 11.40% lower than their score from last month. Fans continue to wait for the group’s comeback, but according to Korean news outlets it has once again been pushed back due to the COVID-19 outbreak. At the moment, Lisa is busy as a mentor on the Chinese audition program “Youth With You”.
(G)I-DLE came in at number 3 this month with their brand ranking index of 4,337,733, which is 18.69% lower than their March score. This happened despite the build-up to their comeback with “Oh my god” on April 6. So far the reaction to their comeback has been highly positive, though, so we hopefully can expect a jump in their score for next month!
Although there weren’t many big ranking changes this month compared to last month, it is notable that Apink jumped up from 11th to 6th place as fans showed excitement for their April 13 comeback, and MAMAMOO made it back into the top 10 with attention due to Moonbyul’s solo and Hwasa featuring in ONEWE’s title track.
