K-pop girl group brand rankings revealed for March!

The Korean Business Research Institute released their analysis of K-pop girlgroups’ brand reputation rankings for March! A brand reputation ranking is an analysis of the value of a group’s name in media, not necessarily popularity. Their rankings are made through analysis on media attention, consumer interest and interaction, and the positivity of reactions to the group or their content from big data gathered over a month.

The data was gathered between February 13 and March 14. There is a small chunk of dates that were not included in this ranking or in the ranking for February (gathered January 7 to February 8).

The overall amount of big data analyzed decreased 3.76% from February.


LOONA had an amazing month, making it to the number 1 spot on the list from third last month! LOONA’s total brand ranking index for March is 5,458,479, falling 19.06% from their February score (6,744,180). LOONA’s huge improvement last month still can’t be ignored, because their February index jumped 400% from January.

The Korean Business Research Institute analyzed big data surrounding the group and found that about 68.09% of reactions to the group online were positive. The biggest related search terms were “So What”, their title track, “Chuu”, and “Billboard”. LOONA gained a lot of attention for charting on Billboard and iTunes worldwide despite their relatively low recognition in Korea. The most common keywords were “enter (charts)”, “thankful”, and “reproduce”.

LOONA recently earned their first music show win with “So What”, so we can look forward to the group’s future!

(G)I-DLE dropped to number 2 from their spot at number 1 last month. Their overall brand index dropped 44.90%, from 9,682,200 to 5,334,606. (G)I-DLE recently was forced to postpone their big I-LAND world tour as well as their March comeback due to the COVID-19 outbreak. With the attention they gained due to Mnet’s “QUEENDOM”, it’s likely they will bounce right back as soon as they are able to promote normally!

BLACKPINK pushed back into the top 3 despite their brand ranking index dropping 14.53% from February. Reports have said that BLACKPINK also had to push back a comeback originally scheduled for March. With their global popularity, it is no doubt that they will easily jump up the rankings as they begin actively promoting.

Other notable mentions are ITZY and IZ*ONE, who have had hugely successful comebacks with “WANNABE” and “FIESTA”! ITZY jumped up to number 4 from number 10 last month, showing Korea’s high interest in this rookie girl group. The release of IZ*ONE’s first full length album “BLOOM*IZ” saw them breaking girl group records with room to spare! They made their way into the top ranks, number 7, after months completely out of the ranking.
