The 2019 Melon Music Awards were held in Seoul, South Korea on November 30. Just in case you missed the award show, we gathered all of the performance videos for you to look over! You can check out a full list of the award winners here on K-SERIAL, too!
BTS’s performance opened with a intro video of the members sleeping in a living room. Shadows of themselves appear in the room, and the camera focuses on RM who is now the only member awake, flicking a lighter on and off.
After the video, we can see RM in a messy classroom full of graffiti as he starts rapping along to “Intro: Persona”. As he leaves the classroom, he takes off his jacket and it’s revealed that he is wearing a school uniform. The other BTS members join him to perform their 2014 hit “Boy in Luv”, followed by their most recent releases “Boy with Luv” and a pre-record performance of “Mikrokosmos”.
BTS continued their live performances with short solo performances by the remaining members to clips of their past songs. Jungkook in particular took fans’ breath away as he danced to “Save Me” in a shallow pool of water. The performance ultimately ended with a fan favorite, “Dionysus”, which featured live horses and the members’ high energy!
MAMAMOO’s performance, overall titled “Neon in the Black”, begins with Hwasa wearing a gas mask and pretending to spray paint the phrase “STUPID IN LOVE” on the dancers’ backs. This lead in to her solo debut hit, “TWIT”, which was just as sexy and powerful as we’ve all come to expect from Hwasa! The group joined her on stage to perform a remix of their spring party hit, “gogobebe”. The dance break at the end features the dancers coming out to cover the members’ white stage outfits in neon paint, turning the MMA stage into a rave with their powerful dancing and black lights!
Chung Ha opened her “co-existing” performance sitting in a throne like a queen before walking down stairs showing off her long, full cloak. She began her dance performance with “Gotta Go”. The video between her live performances featured Chung Ha’s narration in English and a dance battle against herself before her ‘good’ side wins and serves a powerful performance of “Snapping”!
Heize and GIRIBOY
Heize appeared on stage singing her song “Falling Leaves are Beautiful”, followed by “We Don’t Talk Together” with GIRIBOY joining her on the stage. Afterwards GIRIBOY took over the stage to perform “I’m Sick” along with Young B, YUNHWAY, Lil tachi, HAN YO HAN, JUSTHIS and Swings. It wouldn’t be hard to that Heize and all of these rappers were some of the most popular musicians in Korea this year.
JANNABI performed “Good Good Night” followed by “For Lovers Who Hesitate”. The lead vocalist, Choi Junghoon, puts on an amazingly passionate performance of the song, making viewers feel the emotions along with him.
Rookies of the year ITZY start their performance with a meaningful video clip, featuring the quote “I realized all my pain and emotional suffering came from trying to be someone else”. This suits the message held in thier tracks, encouraging people to have confidence in being themselves. They begin with the intro from their debut single, “WANT IT?”, standing behind podiums and accompanied by band. They work their golden outfits for their two hit title tracks, “DALLA DALLA” and “ICY”.
N.Flying opened their “The Music For Tomorrow” performance with the member Seunghyub playing a piano intro to lead to the group performance of “Rooftop”, the song that shot N.Flying to popularity early this year. It was followed by a feel good performance of their more recent hit, “GOOD BAM”.
THE BOYZ opened up their “Boys in wonderland” performance with a special dance performance on the main stage, showing off the group’s amazing synchronization. They make the crowd want to get up and dance with their most energetic title track “D.D.D” afterwards.
Kang Daniel’s performance stage started with a cute video of him waking up in the morning and getting ready for his day. Later he took his cellphone again to check if there is an answer to his message, and we can see the message he sent earlier was the title of his debut track, “What are you up to today?” After he performs his debut song, we get to watch Kang Daniel change behind a screen to better suit the image of his new song, “TOUCHIN'”.
AB6IX started with an intro performance featuring the members dancing in pairs, starting with Lee Daehwi and Woong, followed by Youngmin and Donghyun dancing blindfolded. The blindfolded dance segment was inspired by ice, and you can see the screens surrounding the stage slowly ‘freeze’ before the performance truly begins. All the members gathered on the main stage to perform a short version of their debut track “BREATHE” followed by “BLIND FOR LOVE”.
TOMORROW X TOGETHER
TXT’s magical performance begins with a video of Yeonjun walking in a library at night just with a flashlight, looking at the shelves until he finds a book filled with empty white pages. Suddenly the words “RUN AWAY” appear on the page. The mystery continues, and the TXT members take to the stage for their unique “Intro Performance”, where the members leave an impression by dancing while laying on the ground for an amazing effect! The group performs “New Rules” from their most recent album before a continuation of Yeonjun’s video from earlier leads into a performance of their title track, “Run Away”!
