Over the weekend, many Stray Kids fans became very concerned about member Han’s state of health after he suddenly missed out on part of a special fan meeting for the fans who supported them at the weekend music shows. Despite Han himself posting on the group’s Instagram that he must just be nervous about the comeback, fans concerns grew when he was unable to participate in the group’s fansign (autograph session) aside from a short greeting to the fans.
As fans’ concerns rose, JYP Entertainment posted an announcement to clarify the situation and let know fans what was really happening.
In their statement, JYPE reveals that HAN has been experiencing anxiety or uneasiness when faced with large crowds, and that even though it has been managed through counseling and treatment the symptoms have become more severe in the recent days. They assure fans he still can participate in performances and most broadcast recordings, but that they will be deciding on his participation in future events on a case by case basis by talking with Han and the other Stray Kids members. They apologized for worrying fans, and asked that they keep sending Han all of their love and support.
Ultimately, Han sat out of the group’s participation in the MBC “Idol Star Athletics Competition” recording, which took place on December 16. The company has also announced that he will not be joining the group in their fansigns on December 20, 21, or 26.
Fans so far have been nothing but supportive, most even asking for Han to sit out of specific events before they happen so he can get some time to rest.
The trend of K-pop idols and their companies being more forward and honest about mental health seems to be a step in a positive direction.
